Battolyser Systems is looking to recruit an Electrochemical Research Engineer

You are part of the electrochemical engineering/stack internals group within the research team. The broader team is a multi-disciplinary team of research scientists and engineers is responsible for Multiphysics (CFD), Materials research, Electrode development, Stack internals, component, single cell and stack testing for current and future Battolyser® designs. As member of the team, you will collaborate in a project-based manner within the broader research team, stack design team, Production Engineering and manufacturing.


You will work in an ever-changing dynamic environment but can expect to be working on the following tasks in the first 12 months:


  • Assist in defining requirements/research inputs for selected product improvements based on overall system/product targets.
  • Make calculations related to thermal, electrical and electrochemical properties within the system to validate design decisions and experimental data.
  • Assist in the design of test setups for electrode and component testing. Assist in sourcing components, building up and commissioning setups.
  • Design and conduct thoughtful experiments to validate new concepts and designs, analyze data, and interpret experimental results. Ensure good documentation of testing procedures and results.
  • Provide technical support to the technical lead and/or project lead for product improvement projects.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain testing facilities.
  • Share data with cross-functional teams and facilitate discussions to guide experimental plan
  • Take up relevant health and safety responsibilities: review work instructions/standard operating procedures, review/assist with risk assessments, stimulate others to be vigilant at all times.

Job requirements

Who are you:


We feel, in order to be successful in this role, you need at least 5 years’ experience in an (industrial) R&D environment. You are familiar with literature reviews, research planning, data analysis, technical writing, and possess research skills in laboratory environments. We expect your degree to be in Chemical Engineering, Electrochemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field. Knowledge of testing and/or operating of fuel cells, electrolysers or batteries is a must. Experience with CAD drawing and data analysis via Python, Julia, Matlab, or similar is a plus.


You are able to work in a dynamic scale-up environment and you have a passion to contribute to the energy transition. You are able to thrive in a fast-changing environment and can deal with a lot of uncertainty on many different fronts.
