Lab Manager

About the Role 

The laboratory is a key element in the research and development work towards bringing the Battolyser® technology to market. Activities involve testing of hybrid battery/electrolyser electrodes, materials, components, single cell and stacks for current and future Battolyser® designs. Over the past few years, we have built up these activities from scratch and a next step in our growth is establishing the testing and laboratory activities as a service organisation to all product development teams. As we transition our lab into a service-oriented organization for all product development teams, you’ll focus on creating a high-end testing service in a dynamic, safety-prioritized environment. Key responsibilities include: 

• Developing the lab team of 3 people, into a service-oriented organization, emphasizing staff development. 

• Planning and prioritizing testing work and team workloads with project managers 

• Overseeing lab safety, security, regulatory compliance, and developing SOPs, in conjunction with HSE manager. 

• Coordinating lab spaces with team leads, including housekeeping (5S) and safety inspections. 

• Managing safety training, chemical inventory, and waste stream protocols. 

• Overseeing PPE availability, equipment maintenance, and repair. 

About you 

We’re looking for a proactive leader who brings both a sharp attention to detail and a strong commitment to safety and collaboration. You should be adept at complex situations, such as coordinating multiple lab activities under tight timelines while upholding rigorous safety standards. When faced with challenges, you can quickly identify practical solutions—whether by reallocating resources during peak demand or facilitating cross-team collaboration to meet shared objectives. 

The best combination of background, skills, and experiences is: 

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or related field 

• Minimum 10 years of R&D lab experience, with 5+ years in a managerial role 

• Extensive experience with chemical, electrical, and high-pressure safety 

• Proficient in safety protocols and standard operating procedures 

• Fluency in Dutch and English (speaking, reading, and writing)
